Several of the Roman palazzi now have political functions. Palazzo Madama, another sixteenth-century building which was originally built for the Medici family, has been the home of the Senate since 1871. Palazzo di Montecitorio, completed in 1694, has housed the "Camera dei deputati" since 1870.
